For Lighter Radial Depths of Cut (Less than 1/8 of tool diameter)
Higher range of recommended surface speeds should be used.
For Greater Radial Depths of Cut (Greater than 1/8 of tool diameter)
Lower range of recommended surface speeds should be used.
For Slotting Applications
Speeds (SFM) should be reduced approximately 20% of the lowest range value.
Reduce SFM as material hardness increases
When milling steels up to 60Rc, chip color indicates correct speed and feed:
  • Tan color indicates proper operating parameters
  • Blue or dark chips indicate speed should be reduced
  • White chips indicate speed should be increased

Speeds and Feeds

Recommendations are to be used when axial depth of cut does not exceed 1 1/2 times the cutter diameter. When using long & extra long End Mills, reduce feed per tooth 50%. Al recommendations should be considered only as a starting point, with possible variations to achieve optimum results.
